Shri Banke Bihari Gurukulam, Jigani is a residential Vedic education center dedicated to shaping young lives through discipline, devotion, and strong character building. Operating under the divine shelter of Lord Banke Bihari and guided by the teachings of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada, the Gurukulam focuses on the holistic development of children—intellectually, morally, physically, and spiritually.
Currently nurturing 15 students, the Gurukulam follows a balanced education model that integrates spiritual education with regular academic schooling. For formal academics, children attend Royal English Medium School, Indalwadi Circle, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, ensuring they receive quality modern education alongside their Gurukul training. From 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM, academic subject coaching is provided at the school itself to strengthen their learning foundation.
The daily routine begins early with Mangala Arati at 5:00 AM, followed by Hare Krishna mantra japa meditation, yoga sessions, and go-seva. These practices cultivate self-discipline, purity, physical health, and spiritual focus from a young age. Children actively participate in cow care, including milking, administering medicine, and assisting in treatment, learning compassion, responsibility, and service through hands-on experience.
Students are trained in Veda Patha, spiritual scriptures, moral conduct, and practical life skills, preparing them to face modern challenges with clarity and spiritual strength. They also learn mridanga, kartals, and devotional singing, and regularly perform during various aratis and temple programs, nurturing confidence, devotion, and teamwork. The children always wear simple Vedic attire and partake exclusively in Krishna prasadam, reinforcing purity in lifestyle and consciousness.
Evenings after studies are thoughtfully structured, allowing time for play, physical activity, and evening aratis, ensuring balanced growth of body and mind. Special emphasis is placed on cleanliness, humility, obedience, simplicity, and service attitude, while distractions are minimized to help children grow with focus and inner stability.
Srila Prabhupada strongly emphasized the importance of such early spiritual training:
“Children should be trained from the very beginning to become devotees of the Lord.”
— Srimad Bhagavatam 7.6.1, Purport
The Gurukulam also provides shelter and education to needy and deserving children, enabling them to rise above material limitations through spiritual knowledge, discipline, and loving guidance. Teachers act not only as instructors but as mentors and role models, shaping students through personal example.
Spiritual exposure is further enriched through pilgrimages and outdoor learning. Recently, the students undertook spiritually uplifting yatras to Ahobilam and Avani Betta, deepening their connection with sacred places and Vedic heritage.
Situated at Indalwadi Circle, Suragajakanahalli Village, Shri Banke Bihari Gurukulam functions from a beautiful, modern campus equipped with all essential amenities, offering a safe, serene, and spiritually charged environment ideal for learning and growth.
By nurturing children with care, discipline, and devotion, Shri Banke Bihari Gurukulam, Jigani strives to raise responsible, God-conscious, compassionate citizens who can contribute positively to society while remaining firmly rooted in timeless Vedic values.
